PALM SUNDAY

Further Reflections

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week — a week filled with expectation, celebration, heartbreak, and ultimately, victory. On that first Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, fulfilling ancient prophecy. The crowds lined the streets, waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Matthew 21:9).

Hosanna means “Lord, save us now.” The people weren’t just praising Jesus — they were pleading with Him. They were desperate for salvation. They were ready for everything to be made right — for their Messiah to conquer their oppressors and restore their kingdom.

But things didn’t happen the way they expected.

Jesus had come to save — but not in the way they thought. His victory would come through sacrifice. His crown would be made of thorns. And their waiting… would continue.

Isn’t that a lot like our lives today? We know Jesus. We believe in His promises. And yet, we’re still waiting — waiting for prayers to be answered, for broken things to be healed, and ultimately, waiting for His return.

The question for us is: What will we do while we wait?

We can waste our waiting — or we can worship in it.
We can sit idle — or we can serve faithfully.
We can lose hope — or we can live in expectation.

This Palm Sunday, let’s be reminded that waiting isn’t wasted when it draws us closer to Jesus. Let’s worship while we wait. Let’s serve while we wait. And let’s trust that the same God who fulfilled His promises then is still working in our waiting now.

Easter is coming. Hope is alive.
