Further Reflections
By this point, Jesus had already endured unimaginable suffering.
He had been beaten.
Flogged.
Mocked.
A crown of thorns was pressed into His head—not gently, but with the intent to cause pain. His body was breaking down. And still, He was forced to carry His cross to Golgotha—the place of His execution.
Step by step, He made His way through the streets.
He stumbled under the weight.
The crowds watched.
Some ridiculed Him.
Some spit on Him.
Some hurled insults as He passed.
And eventually, He could go no further.
So a man named Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry the cross for Him.
Finally, they arrived at Golgotha.
And there, they nailed Him to the cross.
His hands were pierced.
His feet were pierced.
He was lifted up—for all to see.
And above His head, a sign was placed:
“Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
It was meant to mock Him.
But it told the truth.
He is the King of the Jews.
And He is the King of all creation—including you and me.
And that reality leads to a deeply personal question:
Who is Jesus to you?
Is He just someone who forgives your sin? That’s true—but it’s not the whole story.
Is He just your Savior, rescuing you from punishment? That’s powerful—but it’s not complete.
Because Jesus didn’t just come to save you from something…
He came to save you to something.
He is not only Savior.
He is Lord.
He is the One who deserves your trust.
Your surrender.
Your full devotion.
So here’s the question that lingers at the foot of the cross:
If a sign were placed above your life… what would it say about who Jesus is to you?
