Further Reflections

It’s Tuesday of Holy Week.

What happened on this day might seem like a small detail at first—but it carries a powerful lesson.

As Jesus was traveling, He came across a fig tree that wasn’t bearing any fruit. In response, He cursed the tree. Then, the next day, as the disciples passed by the same spot, they noticed something remarkable—the tree had completely withered.

At first glance, this moment can feel surprising. Why would Jesus respond so strongly to a fig tree?

But throughout Scripture, the fig tree is often used as a symbol of Israel. So when Jesus encountered a tree that should have been producing fruit but wasn’t, He was pointing to something deeper.

It was a picture of a spiritual reality.

The people of Israel had lost their focus. Their devotion had become divided. Though they appeared active and religious on the outside, their lives were no longer producing the kind of spiritual fruit God desired.

And that’s where this moment becomes personal.

Because the warning isn’t just for them—it’s for us.

In our everyday lives, it’s easy to become consumed with responsibilities—work, family, schedules, and the constant pace of life. And in the middle of all that activity, our connection to Jesus can slowly begin to fade.

We stay busy… but we stop bearing fruit.

Jesus calls us to something different.

He calls us to remain connected to Him—because real, lasting fruit only grows out of that relationship.

So today, take a moment to reflect:

Are you staying connected to Jesus?

Or are you slowly becoming like a tree that has lost its source of life?

Let this be a reminder to return, to refocus, and to remain in Him.

Because when we stay connected to Christ, our lives will naturally begin to reflect His presence.

And that is the kind of fruit that truly matters.
