Further Reflections
It’s Saturday.
Jesus has died on the cross.
His body has been placed in a tomb.
And everything feels quiet.
Strangely quiet.
For the disciples, this must have been one of the most confusing days of their lives.
Just a few days earlier they had celebrated Jesus entering Jerusalem as king.
But now he was gone.
Most scholars believe the disciples scattered.
Some probably went home.
Some may have returned to their work.
From their perspective, the story was over.
After all, no one comes back from the dead.
Saturday is the quiet day of Holy Week.
It’s the space between the cross and the resurrection.
And in many ways, it mirrors moments in our own lives.
There are seasons when it feels like God is silent.
Moments when nothing seems to be happening.
Moments when we wonder what God is doing.
But Holy Saturday reminds us of something important.
Just because we can’t see God working doesn’t mean he isn’t.
The disciples thought the story was finished.
But in reality, the greatest moment in history was just one day away.
The resurrection was coming.
And that reminds us of something we should never forget:
Even in the silence, God is still working.
