Further Reflections
As we continue through Holy Week, we arrive at Monday—the day Jesus entered the temple in Jerusalem.
When He stepped into the temple courts, He found something deeply troubling. Instead of a place centered on worship, it had become crowded with buying, selling, and money-changing. What was meant to be sacred had been turned into something ordinary—and even exploitative.
The Bible tells us that Jesus responded with righteous anger.
He overturned the tables of the money changers and drove them out, declaring, “My Father’s house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.”
This moment reveals something important about the heart of God: He cares deeply about the purpose of worship.
The temple was designed to be a place where people could encounter God. But somewhere along the way, that purpose had been lost.
And if we’re honest, that’s not just a first-century problem—it’s a present-day one too.
This passage invites us to pause and ask a personal question:
Have I lost sight of the purpose of following Jesus?
Jesus made that purpose clear throughout His ministry.
He said the greatest commandment is to love God with everything we have—our heart, soul, and mind.
He followed it with a second: to love our neighbors as ourselves.
And before He ascended, He gave His followers a mission: to go and make disciples of all nations.
When you bring those together, the purpose becomes simple and unmistakable:
Love God.
Love people.
And lead others to know Him.
So today, as you continue walking through Holy Week, take a moment to reflect.
Are you living out that purpose in your everyday life?
Because following Jesus was never meant to drift into routine—it was meant to stay centered on what matters most.
Love God.
Love people.
Lead others to know Him.
