Further Reflections
Around noon on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, something unusual happened.
The Bible tells us that darkness covered the land.
For several hours, the sky grew dark. We don’t know exactly how it happened, but one thing is clear—this was no ordinary moment.
It was supernatural.
That darkness reflected the weight of what was taking place on the cross.
The Son of God was giving His life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
But while that darkness covered the land, something equally remarkable was happening inside the temple in Jerusalem.
A massive curtain hung there—separating the holy place from the Holy of Holies, the space that represented the very presence of God.
That curtain symbolized a reality:
There was a barrier between God and humanity.
Only the high priest could enter that space—and only once a year.
But at the exact moment Jesus died, Scripture tells us that the curtain was torn in two.
And it wasn’t torn from the bottom up.
It was torn from top to bottom.
As if God Himself reached down and opened the way.
In that moment, everything changed.
Through the death of Jesus, the barrier between God and humanity was removed.
Because of the cross, we are no longer separated from God.
The book of Hebrews tells us that we can now approach God’s throne with confidence.
Why?
Because we have a great High Priest—Jesus.
The darkness of the cross was not the end of the story.
It was the moment the way was opened.
The moment access was given.
The moment everything changed.
